MEC - Methylene Chloride
Nov 17, 2017

Dichloromethane has the advantages of strong dissolvability and low toxicity. It is widely used in the manufacture of safety film, polycarbonate, and the rest as coating solvents, metal degreasing agents, gas smoke propellants, polyurethane foaming agents, mold release agents, Paint.

Methylene chloride is a colorless liquid that is used as a reaction medium in the pharmaceutical industry for the preparation of ampicillin, ampicillin and cephalosporin. It is also used as a solvent in film production, petroleum dewaxing solvents, aerosol propellants, Organic synthesis extractant, polyurethane and other foam production foaming agent and metal cleaning agent.

Dichloromethane is mainly used in the field of film production and medicine in China. Of these, 50% of total consumption is for film production, 20% for pharmaceuticals, 20% for cleaning agents and chemicals, and 10% for others. Dichloromethane is also used as a refrigerant in industrial refrigeration systems, but is very dangerous and can produce highly toxic phosgene when exposed to open flames or hot objects. In case of moist air can generate a small amount of hydrolysis of hydrogen chloride, light can also promote the hydrolysis of the metal corrosion increased.

For grain fumigation and low-pressure freezers and air-conditioning refrigeration. Used as a secondary blowing agent in the production of polyether urethane foam, and as a blowing agent for extruded polysulfone foam.

Methylene chloride is also used to make decaffeinated coffee. The coffee is first cooked to dissolve the caffeine and float on the surface, then use methylene chloride to remove the caffeine
